These unique handmade wooden trivets are a great kitchen accessory. Designed to protect your kitchen work surfaces from hot pans, baking trays, serving dishes, teapots or kettles, they look great when not in use and save your kitchen or table worktop when needed. The wood trivets can also be used on kitchen tables and dining tables to protect the surface from similar hot pans, teapots and serving dishes or just as a good looking design feature on which to place your serving bowls and platters.
The unique and striking streaks, and varying colour in the wood is caused by a fungal decay known as spalting, making each trivet truly one of a kind with. Individually handcrafted, the wooden trivets measure (approx) 20cm in diameter, 3.8cm in height and feature a circular pattern on the top of the trivet. Bespoke trivets with different dimensions can be made upon request.
The trivets are all hand turned by myself from a single piece of Spalted Beech and then sanded by hand to create a smooth, tactile finish. As the trivets will be regularly handled and have a high volume of hot pans etc placed on them, they have been finished with a food-safe Danish Oil, made up predominantly of Teak Oil, to help protect the wood. The wood used for the shades is sustainably sourced within England. Designed by Alastair Matthews, each trivet is individually made by hand in my workshop near Saffron Walden in Essex. As each one is handmade using a natural material, there will be variations in the grain and colour of the wood, and also slight variations in size, which is indicative of the material and the hand made process.
