Wooden Platter - Sycamore by Such and Such

This beautiful handmade platter is turned from a single piece of Sycamore. The natural creamy tones of the Sycamore are stunning and so the platter has been left untreated, providing a matt finish. By not treating the wood with any oils or waxes, it is possible to fully appreciate and enjoy the tremendous beauty of the wood's grain and colour.

A unique one-off piece, the wooden platter will make a beautiful decorative display bowl, adding texture and warmth to your home. The large platter measures 35cm in diameter, 7cm in height and features a shallow bowl shape, and gently curved sides.

Once the platter was turned, it was finely sanded by hand to provide an extremely smooth finish. An example of handmade British craftsmanship, this special piece will look fantastic on a side cabinet, shelving, tabletop or kitchen side, whether in a contemporary or traditional home. The shallow bowl / platter was designed and made by hand by Alastair Matthews, in my workshop near Saffron Walden in Essex.This also makes it ideal as a special and original gift.
