This beautiful handmade bowl is turned from a single piece of "Flamed" Beech. The term "Flamed" refers to the streaks of varying colour in the grain caused by a fungal colonisation which changes the colour of the grain, a process known as spalting. The unique coloration adds mesmerising character to the grain of this woodturned bowl and makes it truly unique.
The Flamed Beech Bowl will make a beautiful decorative display bowl or trinket bowl, adding texture and warmth to your home. The one of a kind bowl measures 20cm in diameter by 5cm in height.
Turned on a lathe and finely sanded to give a very smooth tactile finish, the wooden bowl was then coated with a food safe wood wax to help protect the bowl. An example of handmade British craftsmanship, this special piece will look fantastic on a side cabinet, shelf, tabletop or kitchen side and would make a very nice gift. The bowl was handmade by Alastair Matthews, in his workshop near Saffron Walden in Essex.
