Design Inspiration: A Former Upholstery Factory in London

The first of our Design Inspiration posts for 2019 is a former upholstery factory in Hoxton Square, London. We think this particular project was first brought to our attention by Remodelista and resulted in an instant design crush on the team at Mark Lewis Interior Design. If you are going to renovate a former upholstery factory, then this is the way to do it. Taking on a 2000 square foot empty shell and turning it into a two bedroom loft space, is no mean feet but this renovation is a triumph, incorporating all the history and features of the existing space whilst also adding modern amenities and dare we say it even more character. The kitchen with its exposed brick walls stretches the length of one wall. The custom made cabinets have been designed and made using reclaimed floor boards and the rawness of the brick wall and cabinets contrasts beautifully with the marble worktops. A large butlers sink stands at one end of the row of cabinets on its own freestanding unit. Old Victorian radiators have been used to be in keeping with the rest of spaces features. Tongue and groove panelling painted in blue lines the bedroom and hallway and some custom made shelving creates a subtle room divide. Hardware can be a tricky thing to source, finding the right door pull or hook is not always an easy job which is why Mark Lewis has also started his own range of hardware available through his online store, various pieces can be seen throughout the project from the cast iron draining rack, to the kitchen cabinet pulls, to the hooks, find them all here. We love this loft renovation and we love the attention to detail throughout the project, what we wouldn't give to have a loft space like this.
